Looking Ahead to IBM Power11

Oct 1, 2025 7:00:02 AM IBM Power, Data Center

Now that the Power11 has started making its way into the world, we wanted to share our perspective on Power11 and its poise to deliver significant advancements that will redefine the landscape for enterprise workloads, particularly in the world of AI, hybrid cloud, and business continuity.

Imagine a future where your mission-critical applications are not just running but truly thriving with on-chip AI acceleration and the integration of the new IBM Spyre Accelerator. Power11's design seamlessly embeds AI into real-time applications, allowing you to scale AI-intensive inference workloads efficiently. Likewise, it supports IBM Watson Code Assistant for i and watsonx. data by the end of 2025 will empower you to modernize existing applications and leverage hybrid open data capabilities.

Beyond AI, Power11 plans to bring a new standard of resilience. With features like autonomous patching, automated workload movement, and 99.999% availability, planned downtime could become a relic of the past. The integrated IBM Power Cyber Vault offers less than one-minute ransomware threat detection with proactive, immutable snapshots and quantum-safe cryptography, which will futureproof your systems against emerging threats.

From a performance standpoint, expect a substantial leap. IBM estimates Power11 will offer a 1.75x to 5x system-level performance boost over Power9, with significant per-core gains and improved energy efficiency. Performance includes an energy-efficient mode that can reduce power usage by up to 30% with minimal performance trade-off.

For hybrid cloud environments, Power11 will be available in the cloud via IBM Power Virtual Server on day one, ensuring consistent user experience whether your workloads are on-premises or in the public cloud. This "day one" cloud availability for the entire server range (high-end, mid-range, and entry-level) is a first for IBM Power, offering unparalleled flexibility.

Ultimately, Power11 is shaping up to be a platform for the AI era, delivering autonomous operations, robust security, and seamless hybrid cloud capabilities. As you consider your Power9 migration, understanding the future trajectory of IBM Power can help you make a more informed decision for your long-term IT strategy.

Is Power11 Right for You?  Let’s have a discussion

The promise of IBM Power11 is undoubtedly exciting, with capabilities in AI acceleration, autonomous operations, and unmatched hybrid cloud readiness. But whether it's the right next step for your organization depends on more than specs and performance gains; it depends on your business goals, workloads, budget, and appetite for change.

At Racksquared, we don't believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Our approach is rooted in understanding where you are today and where you want to go, then building a path that makes sense. Whether upgrading to Power10, moving to the cloud, or exploring what Power11 offers, Racksquared helps you evaluate the options with clarity and confidence.

Let's discuss what's next and ensure your future is structured correctly.
