IBM Power9 End of Support Official Notice

As of Satuday, January 31, 2026, IBM Power9 systems has officially reached their End of Support (EOS) milestone.

At Racksquared, our priority is ensuring your operations remain resilient and secure. Now that IBM has transitioned these systems out of active support, continuing to run mission-critical workloads on Power9 hardware carries increased operational risks that require your immediate attention.

Why does this matter?

  • Security Vulnerabilities: IBM will no longer release official firmware updates or security patches for these models.
  • Maintenance Limitations: Certified parts are becoming harder to source, and OEM hardware-specific technical support is now restricted.
  • Performance Gaps: Newer generations, like Power10 and Power11, offer significantly higher efficiency and built-in transparent memory encryption that Power9 lacks.

Find Your Next Step with Racksquared

The end of support for one platform creates the opportunity to evaluate your IT strategy.is the beginning of a more optimized one. We are currently helping our clients navigate three primary paths:

  1. Upgrade to Power10 or Power11: Secure the latest hardware for on-premises performance.
  1. Migration to Racksquared’s IBM Power in the Cloud: Move your workloads to our managed environment to eliminate hardware lifecycle concerns forever.
  1. Custom Solutions: Balance your legacy needs with the flexibility of modern cloud.
